The Skills and Confidence You’ll Acquire
 

As a Development Service Worker, you’ll face the challenges and reap the rewards from advocating for your clients while ensuring they have the skills, resources and support needed to be involved, supported members of their community. During our 52-week program, you’ll learn how to assist your clients by promoting their adaptive skills, maintaining a safe environment for them, modeling and promoting a healthy lifestyle, managing their medication, and applying crisis intervention and other intervention strategies when needed. You’ll also learn to participate in the development and implementation of person-directed life plans, and how to support your clients in the development and maintenance of family, community and other relationships.
 

The Career Opportunities You’ll Have
 

Development Service Workers have a number of career opportunities awaiting them. Many are employed by social service and government agencies, mental health agencies, group homes, shelters, substance abuse centres, school boards, correctional facilities and other establishments. As a graduate of our Development Service Worker Diploma Program, you’ll be qualified to work as an educational assistant, residential counsellor, family support worker and special needs worker, among many others.
